AP organisations seek justice for Bilkis Bano

Vijayawada: Members belonging to joint action committee of Dignity for Women, Andhra Pradesh, submitted a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu through NTR district collector S. Dilli Rao here on Sunday, seeking justice for Bilkis Bano.

The JAC delegation was led by Dr. Chennupati Keerthi, Convenor of Dignity for Women, Sunkara Padmasri, senior AP Congress leader, and Farooq Shubli, president, Minority Hakkula Parirakshana Samithi, among others.
The memorandum expressed solidarity with Bilkis Bano, who fought relentlessly for 20 years for seeking justice since 2002 when she was raped during the Godhra riots. After 17 years of her long struggle, the criminals were sentenced to life.

Thus, the JAC leaders said when the whole country had been celebrating Azad Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15th August 2022, they all got stunned on hearing about the release of prisoners in Bilkis Bano case, they being taken out in a procession, and honoured with garlands.

In their memorandum, they urged the President to revoke release of the 11 convicts in the case. “Otherwise, a wrong message will go to the society,” the JAC leaders warned.
