Bengaluru: Rowdy shot at for resisting arrest, attacking constable

Vinodh was on the run for killing another rowdy, Manja and his friend.

BENGALURU: South zone police have cracked a double murder case that rocked the city. The special team had nabbed the killer after shooting him in the leg.

The accused, Vinodh Kumar (27), who was known under aliases Vinoda and Koti, has been arrested and admitted to a hospital. Pradeep, a police constable is also injured in the incident and he was also hospitalised.

Vinodh had chased and killed Manjunath alias Tamma Manja, a rowdy sheeter and his friend Varun Reddy on August 25. The brutal manner in which they were murdered had shocked the city.

A special team was formed under leadership of DCP South Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat, ACP Subramanyapura T. Mahadeva to nab the killers.

On Wednesday the team got specific inputs on the movement of Vinodh. He was moving in a car bearing registration number KA 41 C 3080 near Talaghattapura on the city outskirts.

The car was waylaid by the police. The accused Vinodh threw chilli powder on the police and assaulted them. Police constable Pradeep suffered injuries on his left shoulder.

Sub Inspector Nagesh, shot in the air and asked the accused to surrender. When Vinodh continued the attack the police he was shot in his leg.

The police took him into the custody and later shifted to a hospital. Another associate, who was driving Vinodh’s vehicle, managed to escape. The police have launched a hunt for him.

A case has been registered in Talaghattapura police station under IPC sections 302, 353 and Indian Arms Act.

According to police, Vinodh was involved in two murder cases, two attempt to murder cases, kidnap, robbery and dacoity cases. He was a rowdy sheeter in K.S. Layout police station.

It is said that, he had killed his friend over a trivial issue by smashing his head with a boulder. He had seven robbery and dacoity cases against him.

Vinodh got his nick name Koti (monkey) for his attitude of going to any extent of harming anyone around after consuming alcohol. He was very unpredictable and no one knew how he behaved at any point of time.

The police said that at the time of murder of his boss Tab Raghu, Vinodh was present on the scene and he managed to escape.

He waited for a long time before taking revenge by killing Tamma Manja, a rowdy sheeter. Another person who was killed Varun Reddy had nothing to do with all this. Varun's mistake was that he was with Manja.

Vinodh hails from a poor family and had spent his childhood on streets and attained notoriety. His sole aim was to earn money to spend on alcohol and drugs. He was a seventh class dropout.
