Hyderabad: Just as there is no dearth of men and women willing to cheat the public by claiming extraordinary powers, there is no dearth of gullible people willing to believe the tall claims made by these wily cheats.
They extort money by promising to solve all the problems whether it is family, career, finance or health. These criminals exploit people by taking advantage of bad times. They loot money, gold ornaments and other valuables from their victims.
The Old City is under the spell of ‘black magicians’ and ‘babas’ who promise the victim a life free of problems. “Fake babas are ruling the roost in the Old City. Miracle healers, treasure hunters and even relationship advisers now have their ‘offices’ in Hyderabad. Many use mainstream media to advertise their skills. And then there are ‘online babas’ who cheat the gullible via websites,” said a police official.
These cheats have offices in Secunderabad, Panjagutta, Basheerbagh, and other places in the city and its outskirts. Some are even willing to solve problems through the telephone without disclosing their locations. The crooks keep changing their location, across cities and states, and tell clients to deposit money in specific bank accounts.
“Advertisements are given by these people who promise to help with court cases, career issues, love affairs, infertility and family disputes. They also claim to be specialists in Maha Vashikaran,” said a CCS police officer.
Then there are ‘black magicians’ who maintain websites to attract customers especially the poor. “Black magic and vashikaran are powerful tools. The person who knows this can solve problems,” claims a website run by a 'specialist' called Ayush Sharma.
