Anantapur: Newborn's body found in dustbin

One Town circle inspector alerted all hospitals in the city to submit details about deliveries for the past one week.

ANANTAPUR: A newborn girl was found dumped in a dustbin with both hands missing and a rope tied to its throat on JNTUA Road here on Tuesday. One Town police suspect the child was about two days old.

Sources said locals of JNTUA (Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur) area noticed the infant’s body and dogs might have eaten away her hands.

They alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. The infant had a clip on its navel, showing that she was born at a government hospital.

One Town circle inspector alerted all hospitals in the city to submit details about deliveries for the past one week.

“We also asked records about the cases of deaths soon after delivery at labour wards,” the CI said and added that a case was registered under Section 560 for leaving the dead body abandoned without conducting cremation.

The mortal remains of infant were shifted to general hospital for post-mortem, which will be done on Wednesday. If the cause of death was a murder, detailed probe would be conducted to nab the parents who killed an infant for being a girl, the police said.
