Telangana: Burglar gang arrested, goods worth Rs 5 Lakh seized

Police said the suspects were all college dropouts.

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested a six-member interstate gang of burglars who burgled locked houses in Chaitanyapuri and solved 15 cases. Police also seized valuables worth Rs 5 lakh from them. The cops said the suspects were earlier arrested in other cases.

The arrested persons are D. Laxman Singh, 21, a welder, M. Prakash, 21, a barber, T. Venkatesh, 19, a catering worker, M. Venkataramana, 19, a labourer, G. Mahesh, 21, a bike mechanic and K. Rahul, 20, a catering worker. Two others are absconding.

Police said the suspects were all college dropouts. Due to their low incomes they ganged up and started thefts.

“Mahesh was earlier arrested five times in 12 cases and Venkat was arrested twice in five cases. Venkataramana was also arrested twice in five cases,” LB Nagar DCP M. Venkateswar Rao said.

On Saturday morning while the gang was moving near a school in Chaitanyapuri police nabbed them. They confessed to their involvement in 15 burglaries, five in Chaitanyapuri, two each in Saroornagar, Hayathnagar and Medipally and one each in LB Nagar, Uppal, Ghatkesar and Kushaiguda police station areas.

Police also found that Laxman, Prakash and Mahesh had suspect sheets against them at Chaitanyapuri police station. The suspects were arrested and 30 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver, six bikes, mobile phones, one laptop and a camera Rs 5.10 lakh were seized from them.
