Woman's murder: Kottayam police await DNA test results

Sources said that the accused confessed to the murder after identifying the picture of the woman.

Kottayam: The police have sent for DNA test the sample of the woman’s body which was found tied up in a sack at a rubber estate at Aikkarakunnu near Athirampuzha on Monday morning. Only after receiving the results the police can confirm whether it is the body of Aswathy, 21, who has been missing. The woman was allegedly murdered by Gadar Yousuf, Alias Basheer, 42, who was taken into custody on Thursday.

Sources said that the accused confessed to the murder after identifying the picture of the woman. Basheer, who resides at Ammanchery near Athirampuzha, had an affair with Aswathy and murdered her around 10 p.m. on Saturday last for refusing to abort her pregnancy, sources said, He tied up the body in a sack and kept it at the back side of his house.

On Sunday night, he put it in the dickey of his car after covering it with a tarpaulin sheet and dumped it in the rubber estate. The police got a cue from the number of the tarpaulin cover and contacted the courier company in Mumbai. It was confirmed that the cover was of a parcel sent from New Delhi to Mangalore. The courier had sent it to Kottayam and the police zeroed in on the accused based on the information.
