Rs 2-crore gold heist from jewellery shop
Bengaluru: Three unidentified men entered a jewellery shop posing as customers, assaulted a staff and escaped with gold jewels worth around Rs 2 crore at Dwarakanagar in Bagalur police station limits on Friday morning.
According to the police, the incident took place at Rajalakshmi Jewels and Pawn Brokers around 7.30 am. Gopal alias Pappu, the employee at the shop, sustained injuries after being assaulted by the robbers.
The incident happened shortly after Gopal had opened the shop. While he was offering pooja, three men entered the shop and asked him to show mangalsutras. While he was opening a locker, the assailants assaulted him and poured kerosene on him.
“One of them threatened that they would set him ablaze if he screamed. Later, he held Gopal at knife point while the two others took away jewel boxes. Before escaping, the robbers disconnected the DVR Box connected to the security camera,” the police said.
Gopal informed the shop owner, Govind Singh, who then alerted the police.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that four men came in two bikes to the shop. One was waiting outside, while three others committed robbery. Though the exact value of the stolen items is yet to be ascertained, the owner has claimed it was valued Rs 2 crore. We have formed special teams to crack the case,” an official said.
Theft at Shivajinagar
A staff of a jewellery shop allegedly committed theft and escaped with gold jewellery worth around Rs 60 lakh in Shivajinagar police station limits on Thursday.
Police said the theft was reported in Suvera Jewellery owned by Ajith Kumar on OPH Road. As the staff, who used to stay at the owner’s house attached to the shop, is absconding after the incident, the police are suspecting his role.
It is said that he escaped with around two kg of gold jewels early Thursday. The incident came to light on Thursday morning.
