GHMC officer arrested by ACB sleuths

Assets worth Rs 10 crore seized from assistant city planner.

Hyderabad: ACB sleuths unearthed assets worth around Rs 10 crore from GHMC Circle X-A assistant city planner A. Santosh Venu. The ACB raided his house and the houses of his relatives at Narayanaguda and his properties at DD Colony and Gudimalkapur. During the raids, the sleuths seized a residential complex at Himayath Nagar constructed on 330 square yards. The ground floor has a luxurious three bed room flat, where he and his family stays. The other seven flats in the complex are rented out. The ACB also found a G+3 building at DD Colony, a flat each at Himayath Nagar and Erragadda.

The other seized properties are two cars, 70 tola gold, foreign watches, a Sony LED TV worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, foreign watches, a scooter, other household articles, bank balance of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh cash. “As per records the value of the properties is about Rs 4 crore. But the market value of the properties is approximately Rs 10 crore,” an ACB official said. The sleuths found that Santosh Venu frequently went on foreign trips along with his family and celebrated both his daughters marriages lavishly.

Two months ago his son, who is an engineering student, went on a foreign trip. Santosh Venu was arrested and produced before the ACB court and sent to judicial custody. Santosh Venu started his career as a section officer around 11 years ago at GHMC's Khairatabad circle office.

Later, he was transferred to Circle IX Abids and then was promoted as assistant city planner and posted at Patancheru. After that he was transferred to Serilingampally. Around two years ago, he was shifted to Khairatabad circle. From the time of appointment there were charges of corruption against him. He was once suspended while working at Abids for alleged corruption.
