AP maid killed in Chennai: Woman, niece held
Chennai: In a shocking incident in the city, a 19-year-old house maid was killed by her employer and niece by pouring hot water, on Wednesday. The duo was arrested on Thursday night.
According to the police sources, the victim, Mahalakhsmi of Andhra Pradesh was working as a maid in Murugantham’s (50) house in Besant Nagar for past five years. “As Murugantham has another house in Kancheepuram, he would go there and stay often with the family. On Thursday, he went to Shasthri Nagar police station and informed his house maid had died of sickness, on Wednesday,” the police said.
The police rushed to the house and sent the body to a government hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the police grew suspicious as the body had burn injuries.
During the investigation, it transpired that the Murugantham’s wife Sushmitha (45) and her niece Mithra (21) poured hot water three days ago in Kancheepuram house. “The victim had beaten Murugantham’s son Jaibalaji (10) while they were playing three days ago. The boy complained about this to his mother. Infuriated by this, the woman and her niece allegedly poured the hot water on Mahalakhsmi,” the police said.
The police also said that the family, without admitting her to a hospital, brought her to Besant Nagar house and treated her themselves for past three days. But Mahalakhsmi died of deep burn injuries forcing the family to lie to the police.
After the investigation, the police arrested Sushmitha and Mithra. The police also interrogating Murugantham.
