Telangana: Drug victims identity to be concealed

Mr Sabharwal said that anyone with any information can call on the toll-free number 1800-425-2523.

Hyderabad: Mr Akun Sabharwal, director of the enforcement wing of the Prohibition and Excise department, told the media on Wednesday that the department would not reveal the names of students who bought drugs or or the educational institutions some of them attended.

He said he was writing letters to the educational institutions concerned informing them that the department would not register cases against their students but wants more information about the racket and how the suppliers are approaching students.

“During the investigation, a lot of disturbing facts have come out. We have issued notices to the schools that have drug addicted students and the managements have already begun a campaign against drugs. We have also told other schools to begin anti-drug campaigns on a priority basis,” he said.

Mr Sabharwal said that anyone with any information can call on the toll-free number 1800-425-2523. “We don’t disclose the identity of complainants,” he said.

He said that the accused persons would sell the drugs to students at small shops near their schools. “There is no other source of point of sale. There is no role of canteens inside schools and colleges. After getting down from the school bus or their cars, the drug addicted students would directly visit a particular point of sale either in the morning or after school closed. Drug suppliers maintained Whatsapp and Telegram groups to receive orders from students,” he said.
