Najju unaware of cousin's demise
Chennai: Najju aka Gayathri (19), the survivor in the robbery in which her cousin and a neighbour lost their lives, reportedly suffered a blood-clot in the hip and is recuperating at the Royapettah Government Hospital with no knowledge that her cousin Nandhini, who was riding the vehicle on Monday night, passed away. Recalling her harrowing experience to DC, Najju said she was talking to her elder sister on her way back home after they withdrew money from Mandaiveli ATM.
“When we reached the Foreshore Estate signal on Santhome High Road, a man approached us on a bike and tried to snatch the bag from my hand. I resisted. I tried to pull it back, but as he was tugging on it vigorously, I let go for the fear of him trying to hurt us”, she said. “I raised an alarm and Nandhini Akka got tensed and started chasing him at full throttle. His bike skid near the diversion to our house and so did ours and we crashed into a barricade. Akka hit her head on a stone and I went flying. I have no idea where I fell. I saw an old man under our vehicle and instantly became unconscious,” added Najju.
“The culprit should not be let off on bail. He should be given the most severe form of punishment,” said the girl who is in immense pain due to her injuries. She said the robber was stout and wearing a helmet. The news of her cousin's death has not yet been revealed to her.
