Hyderabad: Rs 1 crore worth ganja seized, 2 arrested

The two accused have been identified as B Jeershetty from Zaheerabad and P. Nilaram Metray from Balki.

Hyderabad: Following a tip, the Medak excise and enforcement team nabbed two drug traffickers who were engaged in smuggling marijuana. The team arrested the accused, who were commuting in separate vehicles, and seized 508 kg of marijuana, worth around Rs 1 crore in the international market, from their possession at the Muthangi toll plaza on Sunday morning.

The two accused have been identified as B Jeershetty from Zaheerabad and P. Nilaram Metray from Balki.

D. Gayathri, assistant SP, Medak excise and enforcement, said, “We were told that the two vehicles carrying the consignment had commenced their journey from a village near the Andhra-Orissa border, following which we engaged our officials in route watch. Around 9.30 pm on Saturday, we intercepted the two vehicles. They were attempting to smuggle the goods into Maharashtra.”

The accused said they had been told to transport the contraband by Bansilal, vice-sarpanch of Chilapally and Sahadev and Rauf Khan from Balki.
