Hyderabad: Man held for car sale fraud
Hyderabad : The police has arrested an attention-diversion trickster, who used morphed pictures and fake Aadhaar cards to procure prepaid SIM cards, created fake social media accounts with these, and cheated many in the guise of selling used cars on olx.in. The man was identified as Tadi Rajesh.
In another incident, a maid servant who allegedly stole gold jewellery from her employer’s house in Punjagutta has been arrested.
West Zone DCP A. Venkateswar Rao told the media on Friday that Rajesh hailing from East Godavari district created fake Aadhaar cards by morphing pictures he downloaded from Facebook. He also created fake accounts on social media and Olx.in with the mobile numbers he had illegally procured.
Rajesh posted the picture of his Toyota Etios car with a fake registration number. When prospective buyers contacted him, he showed them the car. “Once the the documentation completed, he collects cash from the buyer and request that he be dropped home before they take away the car. He would drive the car for some distance and then request the buyer to drive.
When the buyer gets down to change seat, Rajesh would speed away with the cash and the vehicle,” the DCP said.
This way, he cheated driver Shaik Mohammed who approached him on Olx.in after seeing the advertisement of the Toyota Etios car posted in the name of Srinivas Komati. On April 18, Rajesh identified himself as Srinivas and went to Langar Houz to meet the victim.
The victim took the pictures and videos of the vehicle on his mobile, and Rajesh asked him to arrange money. He left the place saying he had to pick up a passenger from the airport. Two days later, when the victim gave Rs 5 lakh and completed documentation he asked him to drop him home, and then started driving the car. Enroute, he stopped and asked the victim to drive the car. “When he got down to change into the driving seat, Rajesh sped away. Based on call data analysis, police arrested him and sent him to remand.”
