Hyderabad: 12-year-old boy's killer Muneruddin arrested

The suspect said that he was inspired by the TV series, Crime Patrol.

Hyderabad: Mohd Uroojuddin, 12, became a target after the arrested murder suspect Shaik Muneeruddin learnt that his father, an RTA agent, had sold his land in Falaknuma for Rs 1 crore. Shaik Muneeruddin planned to extort Rs 35 lakh as ransom, but fearing that he might get caught, murdered the boy and dumped his body in a drainage water tank.

Police arrested Muneeruddin, a 21-year-old first year BCom student of Vidyadayani College, who was involved in the kidnap and murder of Mohd Uroojuddin Ahmed alias Rafi on Friday. The suspect said that he was inspired by the TV series, Crime Patrol. On April 29, police received a complaint from Uroojuddin’s father, Mohd Yawaruddin, 42, stating that on April 28, at about 4:30 pm, his son went for namaz at Afzal Masjid and did not return. The investigating officer went through CCTV cameras in the area and found the missing boy was talking to Shaik Muneeruddin five minutes before he went missing. The Inspector apprehended Muneer-uddin and questioned him. Muneeruddin confessed that he had met the boy at the masjid and kidnapped him saying that he would show him peacock and Millathnagar.

“He planned to demand a ransom of Rs 35 lakh from his parents, who were his neighbours since three years,” said South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.

“He took the boy to Manwani Kunta in Millathnagar. There he throttled the boy due to fear that he would disclose his identity. He then removed the minor’s clothes and kept it with him to show his parents to demand ransom. After realising that they might recognise his voice he burnt the clothes near the tank,” the DCP added. The suspect said he was inspired’ by the TV series Crime Patrol and the information from the boy's elder brother, Sohail, that his father has sold some land at Falaknuma for Rs 1 crore.

Based on his confession the police rushed to the place of offence and took out the body from the drainage water pool and sent it it to Osmania Hospital for post-mortem.

The police booked the suspect under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) of IPC and arrested him on Friday.
