Cyber fraudster held for robbing Hyderabad techie

Hyderabad: Rachakonda cyber cell police arrested a cyber fraudster on Friday who robbed a city-based techie through a phishing call.

The suspect was identified as Santosh Modi hailing from Jharkhand. He was staying in New Delhi since some years.

Police said Vivek Reddy, a software professional from LB Nagar, received a phone call from an unidentified person who claimed that he was the manager in Andhra Bank’s credit card division and asked for details of his credit card.

He said the details were needed for updating the card.

Believing the stranger, Vivek shared his card details and password including the CVV number.

Later he shared the OTP he got on his mobile as per instructions of the caller.

After he shared the OTP to the caller eight transactions worth Rs 2 lakh were made through his credit card.

Vivek who got the alerts for the transactions on his mobile found that he was duped and lodged a complaint with the police.

Police registered a case and on inquiry found the suspect transferred the money from the victim's bank accounts to different e-wallets and later transferred to different bank accounts.

Based on bank details and call data records police traced the suspect to Delhi and arrested him.

He was shifted to Hyderabad on transit warrant and remanded on Friday.
