Palakkad: Two persons, including an engineering student, were arrested on Thursday over the suicide of a 16-year-old girl at Walayar on Tuesday. The post-mortem report of the girl said that she was subjected to sexual abuse. The arrested are Uppukuzhiyil Jayaprakash, 44, of Canalpiriyu, a daily wage worker, and Vipin, 23, of Chullimada near Kanjikode, a mechanical engineering student.

Hariprasad said that Jayaprakesh was close to the family of the girl after her father's death and he often visited her house. The cops suspect that Jayaprakash and Vipin, who also had befriended the girl, had sexually exploited her. Both were slapped with POSCO Act sections and produced before the magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody.
'Walayar Sisters'
It may be recalled that two minor sisters in a family at Walayar had committed suicide in January last year. They were the daughters of a daily wage couple. The siblings were sexually abused by the friends of their father and relatives while their parents were out for work.
