Kollam: The 14-year-old girl who was found dead by hanging at her house in Mynagappally on Tuesday was a victim of sexual assault, confirmed Sasthamkotta police.
Police has taken three persons, including a 26-year-old woman, a neighbour of the girl, under custody in connection with the incident.
According to the Police, the woman allegedly took the girl to several places including Madhurai, where she was molested. Police also recovered Rs. 1.5 lakh and seized sleeping pills, 12 SIM cards, and 8 memory cards from the woman's house.
The girl hailing from Edavanasseri in Mynagappally was a Ninth Standard student with the LVHS in Kadappa.
The incident took place by around 10 am on Tuesday morning when her parents, both manual labourers, were out for work.
The parents returned by afternoon to find the girl hanging from the ceiling of their bedroom.
Forensic, scientific, and fingerprint experts from Pathanamthitta had collected evidences from the site. The body was sent to Thiruvanananthapuram MCH for autopsy.
Police has extended the investigation to Madhurai and is looking for involvement of more persons in the crime.
