Woman constable dies under suspicious circumstances

WARANGAL: A woman police constable working as a writer at the DSP office in Mahbubabad died by suicide in Warangal town on Sunday. However, the police are treating it as a case of death under suspicious circumstances over allegations of mistreatment by her in-laws.

The deceased was identified as Mounika, 30, who was a resident of Waddepally Colony in the Hanamkonda district.

Parents and relatives of the deceased alleged that Mounika was murdered by her husband and her in-laws, who used to constantly harass her since she got married seven years ago. They alleged that there were bruise marks on her neck and body.

Mounika and her husband, Sridhar of Warangal town, had two children, for whose sake she used to bear the harassment of her husband, a relative said.

Upon being informed of Mounika’s death on Sunday morning, her relatives rushed to the MGM Hospital and tried to attack Sridhar and his relatives. However, the police took Sridhar and his relatives into custody to prevent an untoward incident.

They registered a case and started an investigation.

Mounika’s parents said that Sridhar used to run a finance business, but stopped working and got addicted to alcohol. He, his parents and sisters started harassing Mounika, they alleged.

A friend and a colleague of Mounika’s said, “Mounika is not a timid woman to end her life. She used to teach many new things professionally and personally to all of her fellow constables.”
