Depressed ex-soldier shoots self dead in Horamavu

He had retired from the Army a few years ago and had started an automobile business.

Bengaluru: A 54-year-old retired soldier shot himself dead at his residence in Horamavu in Hennur police limits on Sunday night.

The deceased, Anil Ahuja, was from Uttar Pradesh. He had retired from the Army a few years ago and had started an automobile business. He moved into the city a few years ago and was staying at an apartment in Horamavu.

He was depressed as his wife divorced him five months ago and his mobile phone business was under a huge loss. He had taken loans from his friends and relatives and was unable to repay them, the police said.

Around 9.30 pm on Sunday, he shot himself in the head from his revolver. The neighbours who heard the shot broke open the door, found him dead and immediately informed the police.

The police said that six-seven months ago, he had attempted suicide three to four times and his children had stopped him from shooting himself. But on Sunday, he was alone at home and committed suicide, the police said. The Hennur police have registered a case and sent the body for postmortem.
