Hyderabad: SIT questions Nethi over Nyeem links

Sources said that the officials had found evidence linking Mr Vidyasagar with the slain gangster.

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team probing the gangster Nayeem case has grilled Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Nethi Vidyasagar. Sources said that the officials had found evidence linking Mr Vidyasagar with the slain gangster.

However, Mr Vidyasagar has denied the allegations and said that he has not been questioned by any police officers in connection with the case. Police sources in the SIT say that they met the politician twice to inquire about his connections with Nayeem.

“A key accused in the Nayeem case had named Vidyasagar earlier. It appears that Nayeem’s wife and Vidyasagar jointly own some land that was purchased by Nayeem,” the source said. The SIT is likely to include the politician’s name in the chargesheet it will submit to the court, sources said.

Earlier, Ganpaa Nagendra, a businessman from Bhongir, who approached the police against Nayeem, also alleged links between Mr Vidyasagar and the slain gangster.

The TS government has given the SIT a free hand to probe the case, also given the nod to the SIT to go tough on the politicians who face allegations in the Nayeem case.
