Chennai: Innocent cop dies in police love triangle
Chennai: An illicit affair involving two policemen and a married woman constable led to the murder of another policeman, who had accompanied his colleague, during a fight between the two lovers at the woman’s house in Thiruvallur on Saturday night.
The deceased policeman was identified as Sundarapandi (24) of Usilamapatti, attached to Thiruvallur district armed reserve. He had accompanied Kallanai (23), another AR constable who was having a running feud with Amritaraj (25), AR constable from Chennai over their relationship with Saranya (23), a woman cop attached to Thiruvallur AR and staying in Kohinoor Avenue in Thiruvallur.
The deceased Amritraj had nothing to do with Sarnaya, but had just accompanied his colleague Kallanai. Saranya’s husband is a jawan deployed in J&K.
On Saturday night, Kallanai came to know that Amritaraj from Chennai had come to visit Saranya at her house. He had then spoken to Amritraj over the phone and challenged him and along with his cop friends Sundarapandi, Chandran and Santhanakumar went to Saranya’s house in the night for a face-off with Amritraj.
An initial heated argument between Kalalanai and Amritraj turned into an exchange of blows after which Amritaraj pulled out a knife and started attacking the others. While all others tried to overpower him, Sundarapandi suffered a deep stab and he died on the spot at Saranya’s house.
Policeman Chandran, Saranya’s sister Devi and her grandfather Suruliyappan also suffered stab injuries in the melee. The chaos in Saranya’s house attracted the attention of neighbours who had rushed to the scene hearing screams. They saw Sundarapandi dead and alerted the police.
