Hyderabad: Man critical after cellphone explodes while speaking

From the day of purchase, he had problems with the mobile.

Hyderabad: A 32-year-old man’s right ear was injured when his mobile phone exploded while speaking on Saturday in Chikkadpally. His condition is critical. K. Nageshwar Rao, 32, hailing from Vijayawada purchased a Nokia 640 XL smart phone for Rs 20,000 including accessories and insurance from a store in Vijayawada five months ago.

From the day of purchase, he had problems with the mobile. “People were calling him and due to the phone’s defects he did not know it. The callers thought that he was not answering,” said his brother K. Nagababu.

Nageshwar gave it for repair and got it back but problems continued. After that he approached the dealer and the company but there was no response. A few weeks ago, while riding his bike he had an accident and the mobile was damaged.

He claimed insurance but that also failed. He was then working for a pharma company in Vijayawada.

“The phone could not be repaired. His superiors thought he was avoiding them and dismissed him,” Mr Nagababu added. On Saturday, the mobile exploded and injured his right ear. Doctors said that there were external injuries and bleeding. His condition is said to be critical.
