Police in trouble for chat with accused

Officials said the two officials may face departmental action if the inquiry reveals that they knew about the murder and kept mum intentionally.

Hyderabad: A DSP-rank officer working in Rachakonda police commissionerate was on Tuesday transferred and attached to CAR headquarters till completion of inquiry, following allegations that he had a phone conversation with Rakesh Reddy, prime accused in NRI entrepreneur Ch Jayaram’s murder.

On Monday, the Hyderabad city police commissioner had transferred Nallakunta inspector S. Srinivasulu following similar allegations. However, the commissioner ruled out reports that Srinivasulu’s transfer was purely on administrative grounds. Following prima facie investigation, the AP police arrested Rakesh Reddy and his aide who was present when the former was killing Jayaram.

Andhra police on Tuesday confirmed that after killing Jayaram, accused Rakesh contacted two police officers working in Telangana and reportedly followed their instructions on how to dispose Jayaram’s body.

Investigators of Jayaram’s murder may also question Telangana police officers on why Rakesh contacted them and find out if they had any role in the case.

Officials said the two officials may face departmental action if the inquiry reveals that they knew about the murder and kept mum intentionally.

“Rakesh Reddy called and spoke to two police officers in Telangana, Ibrahimpatnam ACP S. Malla Reddy and Nallakunta inspector S. Srinivasulu, after killing Jayaram. Call data records of the same were collected as part of technical evidence. Their role in the case has to be ascertained,” Krishna district (rural) SP Sarvasresth Tripathi said.

Before a confirmation was received from the AP police, Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat issued orders of transfer to the ACP, attaching him to the CAR headquarters. “ACP Malla Reddy was transferred in connection with allegations in the Jayaram murder case. He is attached to Amberpet CAR headquarters until further enquiry,” he said.
