Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police arrested a 22-year-old B-Tech final year student for chain-snatching after he sprayed chilly powder on the face of his neighbour and fled with her gold chain.
The accused was identified as Jujuvarapu Srinivas Rao, staying at Sriram Nagar, Yousufguda.
The arrest was made following a complainant from his neighbour Arun Kumar’s wife, stating that when she was alone in her house the accused entered, sprinkled chilly powder on her face, snatched her gold chain, weighing 2 tola, and fled.
“He was known for his lavish lifestyle. He mortgaged his bike and took a loan. Later, the bike was seized by the financer. To get back his bike, he snatched the gold chain from his neighbour and kept the gold at Muthoot Finance,” said A. Venkateshwar Rao, DCP, West Zone.
“The case was solved with the help of CCTVs. On Monday, the Jubilee Hills police nabbed him from his residence and remanded him to judicial custody,” the police added.
