Hyderabad: Restaurant staff faces theft case

Before leaving at around 10.30 pm, he found that around Rs 4,500 was missing from his wallet.

Hyderabad: Madhapur police registered a case of theft against the staff of Sly Bar and Restaurant on Sunday, after a customer complained that he had lost Rs 4,500 from his wallet as he was consuming alcohol at the restaurant along with his friends. J. Lavanya Prasad, who is working for a software firm, lodged a complaint saying that he realised that he had lost money from his wallet while going to the counter to pay for the items ordered. On Saturday, Prasad, a resident of Chandanagar, and his friends came to the bar in Kondapur. Before leaving at around 10.30 pm, he found that around Rs 4,500 was missing from his wallet.

He approached the hotel manager and reported the loss, and requested them to help him by showing CCTV footage. “I was sure the money was lost when I kept the wallet on the table and went to the washroom. But they said their staff were not involved and also refused to show CCTV footage stating that they are operated from the main server in New Delhi,” Prasad said. Later, an argument broke out between them, and Prasad approached the police.

Madhapur inspector R. Kalinga Rao said their teams rushed to the restaurant after a call on Dial 100 and found that there was a dispute about cash, but the restaurant staff claimed that he was trying to escape without paying for the alcohol he consumed. The bill came to Rs 17,000. “We registered a theft case and started an inquiry. We are also checking both versions. After analysing CCTV footage we will make our move,” he said.
