Tirupati: Red sanders worth Rs 1 crore seized

The driver of the vehicle, who was taken into custody, gave a tip off to the police about the red sanders dump.

TIRUPATI: The Chittoor cops on Saturday discovered a red sanders dump at the outskirts of the city and seized two tonnes of red sanders logs worth Rs 1 crore, by acting on a tip-off given by a red sander smuggler, who was arrested by the task force during the flash raids conducted on Saturday.

According to Chittoor SP Vikrant Patil, the task force constituted for conducting flash raids intercepted a vehicle, which was laden with two red sanders logs, during the early hours on Saturday near Mopakshi cross at the outskirts of Chittoor.

The driver of the vehicle, who was taken into custody, gave a tip off to the police about the red sanders dump. Acting on the inputs given by the driver, the task force held flash raids near Narigipalle gutta, where they recovered about 69 red sanders logs weighing 2 tonnes worth Rs 1 crore in the international markets.

“Two Kurnool based smugglers who were identified as M. Pulla Reddy, 30 and B. Masthan Vali, 40, were also arrested during the raids. While interrogation, we have learnt that three more were involved in the smuggling racket and they managed to abscond during the raids, but soon we will nab them”, SP Mr Vikrant Patil added. The SP further appreciated the efforts of Task force team and announced rewards to the police, who busted out the major dump.
