Chennai: Newly appointed maid kidnaps master's child, held
Chennai: The one-and-half-year-old granddaughter of a retired civil servant was rescued a day after being kidnapped by the newly appointed maid who joined duty on Wednesday. The maid was arrested.
The child, Hasini, daughter of businessman Sreenivasan and Gopika, who is employed as a bank manager, was reunited with her family at her residence in Gandhi Nagar, Arumbakkam.
The arrested was identified as R. Beulah (25), of SM Nagar, Otteri who was separated from her husband. She was desirous of bearing a child but couldn't and so she abducted the child on the day she joined duty and went straight to a relative's place in Nellore on Wednesday night. She told them that she had adopted the child and would live with them. Suspecting foul play, the relatives escorted her to the bus stand and put her in a bus back to Chennai. Beulah who switched off her mobile managed to go to Tindivanam instead of coming back to Chennai, but could not find any help from her relatives there.
While on board the bus to Chennai, she borrowed the bus conductor's mobile and contacted one of her relatives, who by then was being quizzed by the cops. She asked him for money and the cops advised that relative to take her into confidence and make her complete the trip to Chennai. However, she gave the slip to the cops at the CMBT. She was intercepted when she was en route to her house in Otteri via Medava-kkam in Kilpauk. She was subsequently arrested and was being remanded to judicial custody.
