POCSO case against Nellore school head, bus driver

Tirupati: Balaji Nagar Police have booked a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the correspondent of a private school and its bus driver for allegedly abusing an eighth standard girl student sexually.

Two days ago, the mother of the girl student had staged a sit-in for more than two hours before the correspondent's Nakshatra School located in Magunta Layout of Nellore. The mother told reporters that her daughter had been caught copying during a school exam a few days ago. She alleged that taking advantage of this, the correspondent had, with the help of his driver, sexually assaulted her daughter during past few days, luring her with good grades.

On Friday, the mother of the student as well as student unions protested outside the school demanding police action. Following the outcry, agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy ordered Nellore district police wing to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.

Subsequently, based on a complaint lodged by parents of the girl, Balaji Nagar police registered a POCSO case against the school correspondent Jeevan Reddy and bus driver Mahesh Kumar for allegedly assaulting the minor girl sexually.

Meanwhile, the school administration has refuted the charges, claiming that the girl had been cautioned by teachers after she had been caught cheating in the exam. They accused the girl's parents of distorting facts to blame the school’s administration.
