Mangaluru: Cop-criminal phone call goes public
Mangaluru: A mobile phone conversation, allegedly between a CCB personnel and a criminal where the former is heard providing information to the latter has cropped up.
The Police Department has decided to inquire into the conversation and also on how the audio became public.
According to sources, the conversation is said to be between CCB personnel Chandra and Rafiq, who has been accused in various criminal cases in various cities, including Dakshina Kannada and Bengaluru.
According to sources, in the audio recording Rafiq is heard asking about the mobile location (of his target or the person whom he wants to track), while the policeman is revealing these locations.
Police officials said the audio is over two months old as Rafiq was arrested two months ago by the CCB and is still in custody. All his belongings, including his mobile phone, are currently with the police.
Interestingly the audio leak has happened while Rafiq's mobile is still in police custody. The police have decided to probe into the entire episode.
Mangaluru City Police Chief T.R. Suresh told Deccan Chronicle, "We will inquire if the personnel in the audio had acted as a decoy and held conversation with the accused or if he provided these information for any gain."
There are incidents when police personnel act as decoy and provide some information to the criminals and trap them or get information related to criminal and underworld activities.
"We will probe if this is one such case of decoy or if the personnel provided information for money or any other gain," he added.
Suresh also said that a probe will also be on how the audio recording became public. The probe would reveal if it was a handiwork of anybody within the police department and the reason for making the audio public.
