Bengaluru: Police shoot at, arrest rowdy
Bengaluru: A day after a notorious rowdy, Palani, was arrested after being shot at by the police, another police shootout was reported in the city in the early hours of Monday.
The police shot at rowdy Ashwath (22), who was trying to escape after committing a robbery on Sunday night. The police shot him in the leg, when he allegedly assaulted a police constable, Akash, attached to the RMC Yard police station, who was trying to grab Ashwath around 2 am on Monday. The incident occurred near Prabhakar Kore Convention Hall.
The police said that around 12.30 am on Monday, Ashwath robbed a man, Annayappa, a resident of Gowtham Nagar, who was heading to his house on a two-wheeler. Ashwath attacked Annayappa with a dagger and robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 300 cash. A passerby who saw the incident alerted the police control room (Dial 100), following which the RMC Yard police was informed about the incident.
RMC Yard Inspector M.D. Mukharam and Sub-Inspector Raghu Prasad placed themselves at the checkpoints in the area as they learnt that Ashwath, after the robbery, was heading towards Nandini Layout. Around 2.30am, when Ashwath was riding near Prabhakar Kore Convention Hall, the inspector and other officials blocked his way and tried to arrest him. But Ashwath assaulted the constable with the same dagger he used in the robbery. The inspector then shot Ashwath in the leg and arrested him.
