Before being produced in the court, the accused slit his wrist with a needle.

Hyderabad: A 31-year-old interstate offender, who was arrested in HB cases, allegedly attempted suicide in Punjagutta police station on Saturday morning. Yellappa Nageshwar Rao, who had reportedly slit his wrist with a needle, was rushed to a nearby private hospital and was discharged after first aid. He had been arrested along with three other HB offenders on Friday and property worth Rs 3 lakh was recovered from their possession. However, the police has denied the reports as baseless rumours and said that he was fit and fine while being produced before the court. He was later sent to remand.

According to sources, Nageshwar was in the police station before being produced before the court. In this intervening period, he attempted suicide. The police staff noticed that he was bleeding from the wrist and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and discharged. Mr S. Ravinder, inspector, Punjagutta police station, said that the news of the suicide attempt was false and the said accused along with three others were taken into custody on Friday night and during the inquiry they confessed to committing thefts of mobile phones and televisions by breaking into houses at night.

Nageshwar Rao along with his associates Chotu Chetan Sharma 19, Mohammed Nayeem, 22, and Mohammed Khaleel, 20, formed a gang and were involved in 2 cases in Punjagutta, 4 in Madhapur and one in Jubilee Hills.

“Nageshwar is a habitual offender and was involved in as many as 17 cases in different parts of the city and also in Tamil Nadu. He had a small bruise on the left part of the neck and he was treated for the same and was even produced before the court and sent to remand.
