Former Mayor, MLA illegally built 24 shops, alleges BJP leader

Building shops in areas, which were meant for public convenience would only make matters worse, Reddy alleged.

Bengaluru: BBMP leader of opposition party Padmanabha Reddy has alleged that former mayor G. Padmavathi in collusion with Chickpet MLA R.V. Devaraj had allegedly misused their office to build 24 shops at Kalasipalya Market and sold them for a whopping Rs 50 lakh each. He alleged that all these shops were built in places reserved for toilets, common passage, staircase etc, which is against the BBMP building bylaw. Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Reddy said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is boasting of running a transparent government. But without calling for tender no property or shop can be distributed."

The population of Bengaluru has crossed one crore and even when it was 80 lakhs, Kalasipalya market was struggling to cope with the rush. Building shops in areas, which were meant for public convenience would only make matters worse, Reddy alleged. Padmavathi and Devaraj have pressured officials to carry out this violation and made crores of rupees, he said. He urged BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad to cancel the allocation of shops and take suitable action.
