Child trafficking racket busted in Mysuru
Mysuru: Mysuru district police have busted a racket involved in trafficking destitute children between the ages of one and six, with the arrest of six people. The arrested have been identified as Mahesh, Venkatesh, Rekha, Usha, Mohan and Srimathi.
The racket came to light after Prashanth, son of Shivanna and Subbamma, went missing near Srikanteswara Temple in Nanjangud on April 21 this year. A case was registered in Nanjangud Town police station.
“Four teams were formed to trace the child. During the investigation, the six accused were arrested who revealed that they had kidnapped and sold at least 15-20 children so far to childless couples. We continuing the investigation to find out if the children were kidnapped somewhere else also and if the gang had any inter-state links. We suspect that there could be three more accused. The accused were male and female nurses, lab technicians, drivers and so on. Our teams are searching for the children abducted bu them,” said Mysuru SP Ravi D. Chennananavar.
