Bengaluru: Spurned man assaults minor niece with hammer
Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the Thalaghattapura police for assaulting a 16-year-old minor girl with a hammer while she was coming out of her school on Thursday evening. The arrested, Arun, had attacked his sister’s daughter, the police said.
Arun had approached the girl’s parents recently to ask her hand in marriage, but the girl and her parents objected to it, saying that she was still a minor. The girl is a standard 10 student who studies at a private school in South Bengaluru.
Infuriated over the objection by his sister, brother-in-law and the girl, a desperate Arun on Thursday evening went to the girl’s school with a hammer. He waited outside till the school ended and as she was walking outside, he started assaulting her. Bystanders rushed to her rescue, and separated her from Arun and gave him a sound thrashing before handing him over to the police.
The girl was admitted to a nearby private hospital where she is said to be recuperating well. A case was registered at the Thalaghattapura police station. Accused was arrested, produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
