BC welfare minister Kamalakar's convoy checked

KARIMNAGAR: With election code of conduct coming into force, Huzurabad police on Tuesday seized Rs 10.40 lakh from three vehicles in different incidents in Jammikunta mandal of the poll-bound Huzurabad constituency in Karimnagar district.

Police stopped the convoy of Backward Classes welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar, who was heading towards Huzurabad from Karimnagar. They checked all the vehicles before letting the convoy proceed ahead. Check posts have been set up at various points in Huzurabad district, mainly to prevent flow of money and liquor into the constituency in view of the bypoll.

During vehicle checks at Mothkulagudem, police seized Rs 4 lakh. Another Rs 5 lakh were impounded from a car at Gandhi Chowk in Jammikunta town and Rs 1.4 lakh were seized near railway over bridge.

While police checks were on, the convoy of the minister was heading towards Huzurabad from Karimnagar. It was stopped and all vehicles were checked, including that of Gangula Kamalakar.

Police commissioner V. Satyanarayana said vehicle checks will continue until the byelection process is completed. “If anyone is carrying any money without a proper record, it will be seized,” Satyanarayana said.
