Disha police book constable for multiple marriages
Vishakhapatanam: Accompanied by Mahila Chetana activists, a 38-year-old woman on Monday lodged a complaint with Disha Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) against a head constable working in CCRB (Civilian Complaint Review Board).
In the complaint, K. Padma alleged that head constable P Appalaraju, a resident of Visakhapatnam, started an affair with her concealing his first marriage. He had started following Padma when she had lodged a complaint with Bheemli Police Station seeking divorce from her then husband. Padma had got married in 2004 and has a son. However, she married Appalaraju in 2008 after getting divorced from her husband.
Both Padma and Appalaraju had been living in Bheemli in a rented house. Subsequently, Padma came to know that Appalaraju was already married and had also been living with his first wife Sunitha and two children in Seethampeta area of Visakhapatnam. When Padma confronted him, he began harassing her mentally and physically. Appalaraju even got her to terminate her pregnancy five times.
After his harassment became unbearable, Padma, along with Mahila Chetana activists, lodged a complaint with Disha Police Station. Its circle inspector G. Nirmala said an FIR has been registered under section 303 and 406 of IPC. Teams have been sent to pick up Appalaraju, who is on leave.
In her complaint, Padma also informed police that Appalaraju has married two other women and is currently luring a woman constable to marry him.
