Hyderabad: Elderly couple jumps into lake, end lives

For the few years, the couple have been suffering from partial paralysis.

Hyderabad: Depressed with their health disorders, an elderly couple in the city jumped into Kapra Lake and ended their lives. Kushaiguda police who have registered a missing case have fished out one body, from the lake on Tuesday while the efforts were still on to trace another body. Uppala Kasaiah, 75, and his wife Uppala Sulochana, 67, were residents of Gandhinagar in Kapra area of Kushaiguda. They have two sons and one daughter and were living with their sons as a joint family. For the few years, the couple have been suffering from partial paralysis.

On Monday afternoon, Kasaiah and Sulochana told their family members that they wanted to go to a hospital for a health checkup and hired an auto, but did not return home. After failing to find them by evening, family members lodged a missing complaint with the Kushaiguda police on Monday night. Kushaiguda inspector C .Chandra Shekar said that the elderly couple was living with their sons in the same house. They were suffering from partial paralysis for about one year and were depressed about their depriving health condition. He said that prima facie, it is found that the family was living happily together, but health ailments troubled the couple.

“A team which was searching for the couple found their footwear on the banks of the lake on Tuesday and informed their family to visit the spot. It was then established that the couple jumped into the lake. The auto driver after dropping the couple near the lake, left from the place. With the help of professional swimmers, the body of Kasaiah has been fished out, while the efforts are on to trace another body,” said the inspector adding that the case will be altered to suspicious death and probe will be taken up.
