Bengaluru: Houseowner assaults pregnant woman
Bengaluru: The Jayanagar police have arrested five people, including a house owner who on Sunday allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman, when she and her family members refused to vacate the house before completion of the lease period in Hosakere BDA Layout.
The house owner, who had leased the house to Ravish and Lakhshmi, not only assaulted the woman and Ravish’s grandmother Lingamma, but also ransacked the house and allegedly snatched Lakshmi’s gold ornaments. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon on the first floor of the leased house in Kalidasanagar, where the victims were staying since August 31, 2016, by paying Rs 10 lakh deposit.
The police said that around 10.30 am, owner Basavegowda’s son K.G. Mahesh along with a few men and women barged into Ravish’s house. They also threw the belongings of the occupants out of the house. They assaulted Lakshmi for questioning. Mahesh and his relatives Kenchegowda, Cheluvaiah, Bhavani and Annapurna have been arrested on charges of dacoity, assault on a woman and damaging property.
The victims complained that the problem started when Basavegowda transferred the property to his son Mahesh. On October 28, 2016, Mahesh demanded that the couple vacate and refused to return the deposit amount, saying his father had taken it and that they should get from him. Even Basavegowda refused to intervene when Ravish went to him. He then approached the court and got an injunction order.
The victims further said that Mahesh and his family were harassing them since the court order and water and power supply to their house had been cut by the owners.
