Bengaluru: 3 robbers held for targeting lone motorists

The robbers would come in front their vehicle and pretend to be hurt.

Bengaluru: The Commercial Street police have arrested a gang of three men who used to rob lone motorists, after claiming they have been hit by their vehicles, and recovered one kg gold worth Rs 33 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Asif Khan, 35, Mehboob Pasha, 29 and Altaf Mohammed, 36, all residents of R.T. Nagar. According to the police the gang had robbed several people using this modus operandi.

They used to target lone motorists at night. They would come in front their vehicle and pretend to be hurt. They would then threaten the victim and escape with gold, money and other valuables.

With this arrest the police have solved 30 cases in the city and recovered one kg gold, worth Rs 33 lakh, and Rs 33,000 in cash from the accused.

Gang of five held
In another incident, Bharati Nagar police have arrested a gang of five, who used to target people who were staying alone. They would approach them and request for a glass of water, and then rob them.

The accused have been identified as Farooqh, 24, Nadeem Khan, 22, Nadeem Ahmed, 21, Ratan, 20 and Javed Ali, 21.

According to the police, on July 25, Jonathan Thomas, a resident of HBR Layout, had registered a complaint stating that the accused had gained entry into his house and robbed valuables at knife point.

Based on his complaint, the Bharathi Nagar police had formed a special team to nab them.

The police said they would sell the stolen items and spend the money, before targeting another house.

The Bharthi Nagar police have registered a case and recovered valuables worth Rs 4 lakh, including expensive watches, cameras and gold valuables.
