It all started in 2005. According to police, Shivakumar's gang and one Velu's gang had a stand-off. In the same year, Shivkumar murdered Subramanya, a family member of Velu.

In 2012, Velu's relatives Shanmuga, Ranjitha, and Gautham, with the help of rowdy Silent Sunil and Market Vedi, hatched a plan to kill Shivakumar.
On December 9, 2012, the gang hacked Shivakumar to death near Electronics City and fled. While Shanmuga, Ranjitha, Sunil, and Vedi were arrested earlier, Gautham eluded police dragnet. After his arrest on Monday, he was produced before a magistrate on the same day and remanded in judicial custody.
