Extremists behind Kollam bomb blast

Aimed to let know of their presence

KOLLAM: Police investigating the Kollam court complex blast case has found crucial evidence that points to the involvement of religious extremists from other states. The organised terrorists are suspected to have conducted the blast to inform and establish their presence in Kerala. The police team had questioned several hundred people in connection with the explosion, including the government officials working in offices within the Civil Station where the blast occurred.

The fringe groups within the state are under their scanner. The team is also investigating whether the culprits had received support locally to execute their plan. An ATS from Hyderabad and the Q-Branch from Tirunelveli had also reached Kollam to help the investigating team. The ATS investigated its possible link with a similar blast at Chittoor court complex in Andhra Pradesh this year.

A team comprising of two DySPs under city police commissioner Satish Bino is investigating the case. A magisterial inquiry by the ADM is also in progress. An improvised electronic device (IED) had exploded at the parking area of the court complex on Wednesday injuring a person. The bomb was planted on a jeep of the labour department, and it exploded with loud noise and fumes.
