Kevin murder case: Police responded 14 hours late, says report

The report says special branch sleuths downplayed it as a family issue.

Kottayam: The report of Kochi range IG Vijay Sakare on the murder of Kevin P. Joseph confirms the failure of the police to act on the missing complaint. It says the Gandhi Nagar police responded only after 14 hours. “Though the incident was known by 6 am on May 27th Sunday, the investigation started only by 8 pm that day. Moreover, instructions of the Chief Minister, IG and the district police chief (were) violated,” it says.

The report says special branch sleuths downplayed it as a family issue. Sources said there would be stringent actions against the erring officers, including ASI P.B. Biju, and driver Ajay Kumar. Mr Sakare told DC that he would submit the report to the state police chief soon. He refused to comment on its content.
