Karnataka government to foot medical bill of 5-year-old rape victim
Bengaluru: V.S. Ugrappa, Chairman, Expert Committee on Preventing Sexual Violence against Women and Children and his team visited the five-year-old rape victim at Bowring hospital on Sunday. "We met the mother and the child at the hospital. She is still in the ICU, but is stable. Her treatment costs would be borne by the state government. The girl sustained injuries in private parts as well as skull. According to the doctors, her condition is not critical and proper care is being taken by them," Ugarappa said. He also instructed the Women and Child Welfare department to provide at least Rs 25,000 as medical expenses. The department has so far given Rs 5,000 to the victim's mother. Dr Manjunath K.S., Medical Superintendent, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital said the child's vital parameters are stable.
