Hyderabad: A speeding car driven by a drunk driver killed a man who was crossing the road in Kompally on Saturday night.
While Neela Mallesh was crossing the road, near the Reliance Petrol Pump, a speeding car was coming from Nizamabad towards the city. One Kishore Babu, 31, who was in an inebriated condition was at the wheel and he lost control of the vehicle and hit Mallesh as he was crossing the road. Since the vehicle was speeding the intensity of the hit was severe, resulting in Mallesh flying in the air and crashing on the windshield of the car. He suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot. Police said that Kishore Babu and his relatives Joseph, George and Vinod, all residents of Jagathgirigutta were returning home after attending a marriage and were all drunk, except George.
The police registered an accidental death case. The police said that they had registered a prima facie case of an accident due to rash driving and since the accused was found drunk, they would alter the case as per provisions of the law during the course of the investigation.
At the inquiry, they claimed that they had consumed only toddy. The police also said that in addition to the high speed while driving, when the incident occurred, there was no proper lighting at the accident spot.
