Coimbatore: In a bizarre instance of child infanticide, a 21-year-old woman was arrested in Coimbatore on Saturday for killing her own daughter, as she thought the child was an “obstacle” to an illicit relationship.
A native of Selvapuram in Coimbatore, Divya had married Aravind Kumar 32, of Kundha in Nilgiri, six years ago. They have a 3-year-old daughter Harivasa. Divya had quarreled with her husband and left him a year ago.
According to police, Divya developed a relationship. Her parents warned her against this and advised her to consider her daughter’s future. After this, Divya’s anger turned towards the baby. On Friday, she strangled the child with a shawl and killed her. Divya was arrested the following day.
