Kerala: Youth held for attack on printing press
Kochi: A youth was arrested on Friday for allegedly attacking a flex printing press at North Kalamassery in an inebriated condition and severely injuring the staff there. The accused was identified as Varghese (28), a resident of Glass Colony, Kalamassery. According to cops, the incident happened at 10.30 pm on Thursday. “The accused along with his friend reached the ‘Raisa Flex Printing Press’ late on Thursday. His sister had scored an A-plus in all subjects in the SSLC exam and he wanted to print a banner congratulating her, to be displayed on the road side,” police said.
However, the only staff there, Prasad (24), told them that the designer had already left and the printing cannot be done on the day. The duo then entered into a heated argument with the staff. “Varghese in an inebriated condition took out the rod kept there for closing the shutters of the chop and beat up Prasad on his head, severely injuring him. He also smashed the door, computer and furniture there,” they said.
The youth was booked with charges under IPC Section (Attempt to commit Culpable Homicide). Police said the youth is already facing a couple of assault cases at the Kalamassery police station. The incident is the third assault case in the region in the past 20 days. On April 15 night, a youth was hacked on his leg while trying to help his friend from getting out of a brawl with a drunken group while a trader was also attacked there for not giving money to the goons’ group.
