Telangana: Class 10 girl saved from child marriage
Hyderabad: Shamshabad police along with Balala Hakkula Sangham rescued a 16-year-old girl on Thursday from undergoing a child marriage.
Anitha from Pedda Tanda village in Shamshabad, who has just completed her Secondary School Certificate examination from Kasturba Vidyalayam, is the daughter of Korra Laxman and Korra Soni, residents of Pedda Thanda near Shamshabad. Her marriage was fixed for May 19, with Naresh from the same village.
Shamshabad Sub-Inspector M.D. Ahmed Basha said a telephonic message alerted him to the illegal marriage and together with members of the Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS), the police went to the village and counselled the parents.
Anita is now at the Kasturba Vidyalayam Trust. Achyuta Rao, president, BHS, said, “This is the 27th marriage in the surroundings of the city that BHS has stopped. We demand that all government departments conduct awareness camps in every nook and corner to prevent child marriages. The state government should support the survivors of child marriages to continue their education and should provide financial assistance to them.”
