Telangana: Missing boy murdered, cops book neighbour
Hyderabad: The body of a 12-year-old boy who went missing a week ago was found in a lake in Chandrayanagutta police station limits on Thursday.
Police booked a 25-year-old neighbour, who confessed that he had murdered the kid and dumped his body in the lake. The accused, Muneeruddin, had planned to extort money from the boy’s father. The kid, Mohd Urooj Uddin Ahmed, a Class VIII student of Rising Sun School and a resident of Jahangirabad, went missing on April 28. His parents filed a missing case with Chandrayan-gutta police when he did not return from a nearby masjid.
“During investigation we questioned locals and came across neighbour Muneeruddin,” said SI M. Srinivas Rao. “The family of the boy had suspected Muneer-uddin. We questioned him on Saturday and let him off,” the SI added.
After this Muneer-uddin fled to Mumbai leaving behind a letter in which he stated that he was leaving as the police had taken him in a patrol vehicle and he felt humiliated.
Police called his family and asked them to bring Muneeruddin to the station on Wednesday.
On questioning the man admitted to killing the child and throwing his body into a lake. The SI said the motive behind the murder was extortion of money from the boy’s father. On Thursday Muniruddin led the police to the tank where he had dumped the body.
