Kottayam: Man hiding in toilet, tied up, beaten to death

The police said that he was killed for hiding inside the bathroom of one Kuttappan.

Kottayam: A worker from Sivasagar district in Assam was brutally beaten to death by locals in Chiravammuttam near Chingavanam here on Wednesday for allegedly hiding in the bathroom of a nearby house, police said.

Kailas Jyothi Behra, 31, who was working at a construction site, was found brutally beaten to death with his hands and legs tied up on the roadside at Chiravammuttam by Wednesday.

Chingavanam sub-insp-ector Shibu M.S., who visited the spot after being intimated by locals, told this newspaper that when he reached the spot, the victim was lying on the roadside, and he was frothing from his mouth.

“He managed to make a feeble sound. He was apparently beaten up by some locals. However, they fled from the spot,” Shibu said. The police said that he was killed for hiding inside the bathroom of one Kuttappan.

Even though Kailas was taken to the district hospital in Kottayam, the doctors declared him dead by 4 pm. No one was arrested so far as the investigation is going on, Mr Shibu said.

He said that women nearby found the locals did not give him water to drink.
