Chennai: Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Arun, on Wednesday, suspended a special sub-inspector for allegedly demanding a bribe from a load auto driver.
The action was taken after the video showing special sub-inspector G. Baskaran attached to Madippakkam traffic police station demanding a bribe from K. Perumal, the auto driver had gone viral.According to the sources, Baskaran stopped the Perumal of Okkiyambakkam, who was carrying water cans in his vehicle near Chitlapakkam check post, on February 8.
“Baskaran had received Rs 100 as bribe from Perumal which was captured by someone and circulated,” the sources said. The department had initiated an inquiry. “During the enquiry, it was found that Baskaran had accepted the bribe from the driver. Following the report, he was suspended from the duty,” the police sources said.
